Professor Yvan Petillot

Prof. Yvan Petillot is a Professor of Robotics and Computer Vision at Heriot-Watt University. He is a leading member of the Oceans Systems Laboratory, the deputy director of the Institute for Sensor Signals and Systems and the deputy director of the joint research institute in Signal and Image Processing (ERP-SIP) with the University of Edinburgh.

Yvan specialises in robotics and sensing and is an expert in autonomous systems, image analysis and control applied to the subsea domain. He has made major contributions in sonar image processing and target detection and recognition.

Professor Oliver Lemon

Professor Oliver Lemon

Professor Oliver Lemon joined the National Robotarium as academic lead in July 2023. With a background in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Oliver brings many years of experience developing machine learning and Natural Language Processing (NLP) models, building knowledge to better understand how robots can interact with humans using conversational speech in visual and spatial use-cases.

A former Senior Research Fellow at Stanford University and the University of Edinburgh, and Visiting Scientist at NASA, Professor Lemon has extensive experience working with industry. He has led national and international research projects with partners such as PAL Robotics, SoftBank, France Telecom, and BMW, and is Chief AI Officer and co-founder of the conversational AI company Alana AI.

Professor Adam Stokes

Professor Adam Stokes

Professor Adam A. Stokes is a Full Professor and Personal Chair in Bioinspired Engineering at The University of Edinburgh. He is Deputy Head of the Institute for Integrated Micro and Nano Systems and Deputy Director of the CDT in Robotics and Autonomous Systems in the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics. He is also Director of the Soft Systems Group, an interdisciplinary research laboratory of around 20 researchers. Adam’s research interests include: robotics, physical chemistry, electrical engineering, materials science, nanotechnology, optics, proteomics, and cell biology.

Professor Sethu Vijayakumar

Academic Lead, The University of Edinburgh

Professor Sethu Vijayakumar

Professor Sethu Vijayakumar FRSE holds a Personal Chair in Robotics within the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh and is the Director of the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics and Programme Director for Robotics and AI at The Alan Turing Institute. His research interest spans a broad interdisciplinary curriculum involving basic research in the fields of robotics, statistical machine learning, motor control, planning and optimization in autonomous systems and computational neuroscience.
